For pupils who do not have English as their first language (EAL), we are committed to working with them to ensure they can achieve the level of English required for their studies and to fully integrate socially.
EAL support is provided by specialist EAL staff, with two hours included in the school fees. Additional lessons will incur a charge.
Depending on their individual needs, pupils of any age can have 1:1 EAL support lessons, small group lessons, or join small group exam preparation classes to work towards IGCSE in EAL in Years 10 and 11 or Sixth Form. For more advanced or bilingual pupils, the ‘English for Academic Purposes’ (EAP) course is available. This course aims to develop the pupils' academic vocabulary, writing, grammar, and higher-order reading skills to prepare them for the demands of both the GCSE and A-Level curricula.
Overseas pupils in Years 12 and 13 (Sixth Form) who wish to go on and study at university in the UK may also attend the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam preparation course.
