The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is for learners who are interested in learning about enterprise and entrepreneurship alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in enterprise-related subjects.

The BTEC Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A-level) is designed to support progression to employment through further study
in higher education. The qualification also supports learners who choose to progress directly to employment, as the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give successful learners an advantage in applying for a range of ‘school leaver’ programmes in management. They can also apply for Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as business administration, marketing, accounting, sales or enterprise, innovation and growth, and the qualification will give them the skills to enter the self-employed market.

It is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

Entrepreneurship

There are also opportunities to get out of the classroom and into real business environments, to run a mini-business in school and to take part in business competitions such as the 10 x Challenge This is an excellent area of study for cementing skills and complementing research and evaluation techniques in other subject areas. It also provides a platform in developing a sound business understanding to improve employability and prepare for further study within the subject.
