The Captain of St David’s College Netball Team says she’s over the moon to be playing fixtures again across North Wales. For almost two years regular matches weren’t possible because of Covid regulations.
However, in recent weeks the netball team featuring girls from Years 11, 12 and 13 have played at various schools in the area including Myddleton College in Denbighshire and Ysgol y Creuddyn in Conwy.
Tryfan House Captain Deanna is the school netball captain, and according to Mrs Elle Jones, PE teacher and Head of Year 9, she is an inspiring leader who although is very gentle and humble off the pitch has a core of steel when on.
“We are just getting started as a team, and it’s great to be out playing again,” said Deanna, who also plays for the Thunder Cats netball team based in Bangor.
What’s great about St David’s is that we have a community here, I have a personal rapport with teachers that was impossible to have at the school I went to before I came here as they’d be well over 30 pupils in a class.
Deanna who has been predicted to get two A grades and a B in her A’levels in English, biology and maths, and wants to study a forensics psychology degree at Chester University, added: “What I like about St David’s is that everyone knows who you are, you aren’t one out of 1,500 you’re your own person.
She added: “In our netball team it doesn’t matter that people are from different years, we all play as one.”
