A date at the Palace

After several years of effort, involving time spent volunteering, learning new skills, taking part in physical activities and of course completing the famous expedition journey, some of our St David’s pupils arrived at the end of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award journey this week

The pupils (past and present), were given full access to the beautiful Palace gardens, while a military band played and various celebrities congratulated them from a handful of stages.

Tea and cake was served before the Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Edward), joined the party with a speech from the west terrace. After the national anthem was played, the Duke strolled through the grounds to chat with the Gold Achievers. Having completed the Gold Award himself, he was keen to hear about their expedition experiences.

In his speech he connected with the pupils who had all experienced the same highs and lows of completing the award and commended them on their resilience.

He finished by highlighting the fact that while many people say ‘Gold DofE - I could do that’ only a few actually do! Well done to Jemima, Roy, Henry, Megan, Erin and Edwin – you are now all part of a unique and worldwide group of people – wear your Gold badge with pride - we are all incredibly proud of what you have achieved!
