St. David’s College pupils celebrate exam success

Published: 15.08.2024 ( a month ago )

Pupils achieved a 97% pass rate across all Level 3 qualifications with nearly three-quarters of grades at A*-C or Distinction*-Merit and 42% of grades awarded A*-A or Distinction*-Distinction

Nerves turned to joy today as St. David’s College Sixth Form pupils returned to the school to pick up long-awaited exam results.

Our Sport BTEC L3 National Diploma delivered outstanding results with 89% of pupils achieving double distinction (DD) or higher, many of whom are now looking forward to starting at their first choice universities to study Sport Science in a few weeks’ time.

Caius Thomas Morgan and Charlie Russell achieved D*D* in their BTEC L3 and will both be going to Cardiff Metropolitan University in October:

Caius said: “I’m very happy with my results and really thankful to my teachers for what they’ve helped me to achieve. If I had to single out a teacher to thank, I’d just have to mention them all!”

Charlie said: “It’s the teaching methods used at St. David’s that makes it easy and fun to learn.”

Another D*D* pupil and Head Girl, Eleri Thomas, is taking a gap year while she decides which course and which university she’d like to attend next year.

Eleri said: “I’m just so happy that I’ve got the grades I wanted to get. St. David’s has helped me a lot, and not only with my education; the school and the teachers have helped me figure out emotionally where I’d like to go and what I might like to do, and that choices are not just limited to the subjects you study in Sixth Form.”

Head Boy Scott Hewitt achieved grade A in Design & Technology A-level, grade B in Geography A-level and a Distinction in BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

Scott said: “I’m going to take a gap year to gain some work experience and then I hope to go on to a Project Management apprenticeship next year. St. David’s has made me enjoy learning more than I thought possible. The small class sizes and focused learning has really helped me engage with the learning process. I hope to run my own business one day and return to St. David’s to sponsor the rugby team kits!”

One of the stand-out performers this year was Edwin Thompson: "I am delighted with my results, having achieved 'A' grades in A-Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, as well as a Distinction* in BTEC Sport and Outdoor Activities. I have been a boarding student at St. David's College for many years now and the support from all of the staff has been essential in helping me to achieve the grades I have. Taking advantage of all the activities on offer here has also developed my interpersonal skills and I now feel much more confident to start my degree at the University of Nottingham, where I will be studying Physics and Astronomy."

Another was Oliver Chandran, who achieved grade A* in Design & Technology A-level, A in Geography A-level and a Distinction in BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

Oliver said: “I’m feeling very good after my results. I’m going to be taking a gap year and completing the second half of my AS-level Finance, but I’ve already got a place secured at York University for 2025 to study Business Management.”

And it isn’t just Year 13 who have received A-level results today. Thomas Barclay in Year 12 has completed his A-level Mathematics with an A* - an exceptional achievement.

This has been another excellent year for St. David’s College, reflecting the hard work and specialist teaching methods that help pupils perform to such high standards - in many cases well beyond what they may have been predicted before joining the school.

Head of Academics, Mr. Mark Turner, commented: “I am very proud of the achievements of all our students and it has been a pleasure to see how they have developed during their time with us, both academically and also as well-rounded individuals who are ready to make a positive impact on society. Our wide-ranging curriculum and the excellent support from the teachers at St. David's College has allowed students to fulfil their potential and I wish them the best of luck in the future.”

St. David’s College Headmaster, Mr. Andrew Russell, said: “I’m phenomenally proud of the results received today for our Upper Sixth, and so pleased to witness the incredible joy as they move onto the next steps in their lives. It’s a huge validation of the hard work the staff put in to nurturing and promoting our pupils’ abilities - and of the incredible talent of our pupils – to achieve beyond their expectations.”

A massive congratulations to everybody on their success today.
