In a Year 11 Geography lesson, students explored the UK's changing climate, including the increased frequency of heatwaves and the risks of warmer, damper winters
Sixth Form students participated in a social/green entrepreneurship lesson, where they examined challenges in the food, fashion, and construction industries, developing creative solutions such as eco-friendly packaging, sustainable fashion designs, and green construction practices.
In addition, Sixth Form Chemistry students took part in a "Climate Fresk" workshop, which focused on how disruptions to the carbon cycle can create positive feedback loops, leading to severe environmental consequences.
Meanwhile, English pupils produced impactful speeches on climate change, honing their skills in advocacy and awareness. In Maths, students used numeracy to calculate the scale of the climate problem and compared the efficiencies of different renewable energy solutions.
This interdisciplinary approach inspired students to think critically about the environmental challenges we face, while also exploring how innovation, creativity, and business can contribute to a sustainable future.
The event highlighted the importance of education in fostering a generation ready to tackle climate change from multiple perspectives.
A photography and poem competition was also organised and congratulations to the winners Toby and a gifted young poet in Year 9.
Thanks to Mrs Susanne Clayton and the Eco Committee for organising, and to all the staff and pupils for their support.
Tree by a Year 9 pupil
Alone I stand tall and old,
the many fleeting years
lie behind me.
So many tales I could have told,
of everyone who came to climb me.
I blossom and bloom.
My branches spread wide
to embrace the world,
and those that climb me.
Even now there is someone
sitting on my branches.
As I inspire them,
for this very poem.
Come, come I urge you.
Come and climb me.
So, I might inspire you.
