Welcome Back Dwynwen!

Published: 13.11.2024 ( 7 days ago )

Dwynwen Evans spent a year as a Residential Assistant in Augusta House at St David’s in 2014 - now she’s back as a full-time teacher in the Outdoor Education Department. We caught up with her to see where she’s been since then…

Dwynwen Evans

What have you been up to since you were last at St David's?

In the 10 years since I was last at St David's College, I have maintained a close working relationship with the Outdoor Education department and have been assisting with the running of sailing and powerboating on the weekends. Since leaving, I have gained many qualifications both in the outdoor education aspect but, also from an academic teaching point of view, I have worked in several centres, gone back to university twice, completed a Masters Qualification, worked in mainstream schools and even spent a bit of time as an estate agent! (this one was a long story).

What's your main outdoor activity and why do you like it?

I have spent a lot of time teaching sailing over the last few years and being on the water but on a personal level, I really enjoy Stand Up Paddleboarding and open water swimming. I find these activities to be peaceful and calming and are an effective way to switch off from day-to-day hustle and bustle.

What are you looking forward to this year?

This year, I'm looking forward to settling into my new role at St David's and I'm super excited to be working on the Y10 expeditions.

When you're not sailing, what other hobbies do you have?

When I'm not sailing or working, I jump into my second role of being my dog, Nel's personal ball thrower. She's a very demanding employer and gets extremely disappointed if her walks aren't sufficiently long enough.

Tell us an interesting fact about you?...

I have completed a marathon and learnt how to solve a Rubik's cube.
